Letters To The Editor
mr editor
the recent editorial on the sol diers vote bill was an excellent expose of one of the most repre hensible pieces of reactionary leg islation this country has known in
many many years
of course practically all fair minded people recognize the in justice of this bill but what was particularly pleasing about your editorial was the fact that it was written in a university paper
for altogether too many years the youth of our colleges have lived in a dream world of studies and good times it is about time this young element were jolted out out of its lethargy to realize that unless they speak up soon for the rights of all men — negro white poor southern whites too — the reactionaries of the rankin brand will destroy our most prized heri tage — american democracy like a candle in the dark the editorial was a gleam of hope a hope that the youth of the american col leges would come to realize their responsibility to the world of the four freedoms to realize it was their duty as well as their privi lege to discuss national politics
it is for the above reasons that the editorial was so commendable continue your courageous edi torial policy continue to increase the political consciousness of the college youth today america needs her youth to wield guns tomorrow it will need them to de stroy the american reactionaries who under the guise of states rights and white supremacy will seek as they do now to keep sub merged the common people of this country
again congratulations on a splendid editorial very sincerely yours pfc joseph s battiato co c
